I AM A PRAGMATIC FUTURIST. I UNDERSTAND AND RESPECT THE PAST, BUT LIVE IN THE PRESENT AND LOOK TOWARD THE FUTURE. THE PAST IS A HISTORICAL LESSON, NOT A BLUEPRINT. NOTHING WILL EVER BE WHAT IT WAS. WE ARE ONLY MOVING ONE DIRECTION.
Yet for some reason the prevailing belief is that we should make things what they once were, again. That the future is a place of peril.
The reality is that the future is only a perilous place if we allow it. At this point with the information and technology we possess, humanity is the creator of its own destiny. There are no excuses - we are too advanced as a civilization. But if we sit here and say, “Forget it, we’re done for,” then that is the future we create.
Well I say, fuck that. We’re not done for. The future is not a place of peril, and it should not be what it once was - it is a place of new wonders. It is whatever we want it to be (except the past). A boundless, optimistic future is merely a mindset, and one easily adopted.
Imagine a world in which people sought to sustainably create beyond what they currently have instead of being scared of what they might lose.
To quote Mr. Gene Wilder:
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There’s nothing to it
Thanks Gene.
So let’s build our wondrous future and change the fucking world. There’s nothing to it.
